GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A 10-day long Eid cricket tournament, featuring 28 teams, has concluded in Zurmat district of southeastern Paktia province, with Jahangir team emerging victorious.
Provincial Cricket Director Bakht Mohammad Zurmatwal said the tournament titled “Zurmati Champions Trophy” has been organised during the Eid days and nights for last five years in coordination with provincial cricket department and personal efforts of local youth.
He added that such tournaments played a key role in the promotion and development of village-level cricket.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Elham, one of the organisers, explained that the main goal of organising the tournament was to foster unity among the youth and to promote cricket in the region.
He said the final match played between Jahangir and Khwazk teams on Saturday, where Jahangir team defeated the opposition to clinch the title.
A player, Mohammad Naeem Niazi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that such tournaments could help in training talented players and preparing them for the national team and other major squads.
