KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Chinese officials have discussed Beijing-funded development projects and bilateral cooperation efforts.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said acting minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi met China International Development Cooperation Agency head Chen Xiaodong.
During the meeting, discussions were held on China-funded development projects for Afghanistan’s reconstruction and other bilateral cooperation matters.
Muttaqi said: “After security, our biggest responsibility is the economic reconstruction of the country and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is giving special attention to this area by utilising all available resources.”
He also expressed hope for close cooperation between Afghanistan and China in the sectors of agriculture, energy and long-term projects.
The ministry noted that Muttaqi also presented Chen practical proposals that could be considered as priorities for China’s role in Afghanistan’s reconstruction.
According to the statement, Chen pledged cooperation with Afghanistan in the fields of health, energy, agriculture, and capacity building. He hoped for China’s continued collaboration with Afghanistan.
Chen also promised cooperation in rebuilding Afghanistan’s infrastructure, livestock development and conducting feasibility studies and research in the oil and gas sectors.
