KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Minister of Finance Eng. Sultan Mohammad Zubair and UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative have discussed the development of Afghanistan’s microfinance sector, effective allocation of foreign humanitarian aid and the financing of development projects.
Zunbair met with UN Secretary-General Special Representative and UNAMA head Roza Otunbayeva, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) said.
A statement from the ministry said both sides discussed ways to promote the microfinance sector in Afghanistan, ensure proper utilisation of international humanitarian assistance, finance development projects and strengthen relations with international financial institutions.
During the meeting, the deputy minister expressed hope that cooperation with UNAMA would pave the way for the implementation of development projects across Afghanistan.
He said: “MoF has made significant progress in advancing the microfinance sector, and we aim to further expand this process.”
He requested UNAMA’s cooperation in enhancing human capacity, introducing modern technology and raising public awareness to further strengthen the sector.
For her part, UNAMA chief assured that she would seek support from countries such as Japan, China, Malaysia, and Indonesia to strengthen the sector through capacity-building and the provision of modern technologies.
She added that UNAMA would continue working closely with the Ministry of Finance to attract foreign investment, implement development projects, develop the microfinance sector, and create necessary facilities in this area.
