MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A former secretary of the provincial council in northern Faryab province and Almar District Chief in the previous government has been killed by unknown gunmen, an official said on Monday.
Provincial media official Maulvi Abdullah Muradi told Pajhwok Afghan News Mohammad Saleh, known as “Secretary Saleh”, was gunned down in Al-Malik area shortly after 7pm yesterday while he was traveling from Maimana city to Almar district. He died after being transferred to Maimana Hospital.
He said the attackers fled from the scene taking advantage of darkness and have not yet been identified.
According to Muradi, security forces have launched an investigation and are trying to identify the attackers.
A tribal elder, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok that Mohammad Saleh was targeted by two gunmen on a motorcycle.
