PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Funds (UNICEF) has donated textbooks and other education supplies worth 31 million afghanis to the Education Department in central Logar province, an official said on Thursday.
Education Department spokesman Shahpur Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News the assistance included 118,698 books in Pashto and Dari for first graders, 258 sets of administrative supplies, 2,003 sets of teaching materials, 2,565 sets of teaching aids and 109 sets of markers and crayons.
He said these items would be distributed to 2,003 teachers and 51,300 students in 288 schools according to the designated quota.
The distribution of teaching and learning materials began today from the schools of Hajiyan in Mohammad Agha district and Malik Sher Ahmad Kochi in the provincial capital of Pul-i-Alam, in the presence of local officials of Logar and officials of the UNICEF Central Zone, the spokesman added.
According to Arab, after the distribution of these materials, the problems of teachers in the teaching sector in Pul-i-Alam city and districts would be partially resolved.
On the other hand, Mirwais, a teacher, told Pajhwok this UNICEF assistance could solve the problem of shortage of teaching and learning materials for students and teachers in schools.
He insists the Ministry of Education and international institutions should also build standard buildings for government schools in Logar, where students are currently studying in open spaces.
Previously, UNICEF had donated thousands of books to schools in the province.
