KABUL (Pajhwok): Heavy rainfall and flooding claimed the lives of two children and injured six others in several districts of eastern Nangarhar province, the governor house said on Sunday.
Dozens of homes collapsed and thousands of jeribs of agricultural land were also damaged, a statement from the Nangarhar governor’s office said.
It said the roof of a room collapsed due to heavy rain in Landi village of Nazyan district, injuring four children. One of the injured died after being taken to hospital.
The statement added that in Kuz Kunar district, a young girl lost her life due to flash flooding, while in the Daman area of Batikot district, two children were injured in a rockslide.
In Goshta district, 250 homes reportedly collapsed and crops on 3,000 jeribs damaged.
Meanwhile, 2,000 jeribs of agricultural land was destroyed in Lalpur district.
Several homes were also damaged in Nazyan, with financial losses reported in Goshta, Lalpur, Momand Dara, Kama, Shinwari, Batikot, and several other districts.
