KABUL (Pajhwok): Renowned Afghan and international cricket umpire Bismillah Jan Shinwari has passed away at the age of 41 due to an illness.
In a heartfelt message shared on its official Facebook page, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) extended its deepest condolences to Shinwari’s family, friends, and the wider Afghan cricket community.
“We pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants him the highest ranks in Jannah and blesses his loved ones with patience and strength during this difficult time,” the board stated.
Described as a “great servant of Afghan cricket,” Shinwari had a distinguished umpiring career both nationally and internationally.
He officiated in 34 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 26 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). On the domestic circuit, he stood in 31 First-Class matches, 51 List A games, and 96 T20 fixtures, earning widespread respect for his integrity, professionalism, and dedication to the game.
His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, particularly in Afghanistan, where he was considered a pioneer and a role model for aspiring umpires.
