Work on 11m water supply project kicks off in Faryab

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Construction work has been initiated on a water supply project at a cost of 11 million afghanis in Andkhoy district of northern Faryab province, an official said on Monday.

Once completed, the project will provide access to clean drinking water for 300 families.

Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Maulvi Alaulddin Haqparast told Pajhwok Afghan News the project included drilling a deep well, constructing a 40-cubic-metre water reservoir and laying 20 kilometres of water pipeline.

He said the project was being implemented in Koblik village of Andkhoy district and would take four months to complete.

Funded by a partner organisation, the project would enable 300 families to find access to safe drinking water, he added.

Meanwhile, Amanullah Samimi, an inhabitant of the district, said recent droughts have led to a severe shortage of drinking water in the area.

He noted that a single project could not fully resolve the crisis and urged other organisations to implement similar water supply schemes across the district.

Ahmad Mahmoudi, another local resident, expressed his satisfaction over the launch of the project, noting that Andkhoy’s groundwater was saline and unsuitable for consumption.

He added residents were forced to purchase water at high prices and such projects could at least partially address the community’s needs.
