PARAKH (Pajhwok): The Department of Mines and Petroleum in central Panjsher province on Tuesday sold 2,235 carats of emerald for $177,350, an official said.
Mohammad Qasim Amiri, director of the department, 2,235 carats of emeralds extracted from four mines in Panjshir were sold to domestic traders through auction fetching a total amount of $177,350.
Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim welcomed the development of trade and mining areas in the province and assured that serious and planned efforts would continue for technical and standard mining of these mines.
As many as 590 emerald mines and two ruby mines have far been discovered in Panjsher.
