PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): At least five people were killed and 11 other, including a woman and several other local residents, were wounded during an armed clash between two families over a property dispute in northern Baghlan province on Sunday, an official said.
In a statement, the police headquarters quoted Baghlan-i-Markazi district police chief Mullah Mohammad Zia Tawus as saying the incident took place in Shahr-i-Kohna area of the Baghlan-i-Markazi district this morning around 5:30am.
He said the clash originated from a longstanding dispute over land between the two families.
The statement confirmed that five people lost their lives and 11 others, including a woman, sustained injuries in the violence.
The statement explained four of the injured were neutral residents who tried to stop the conflict.
The police chief explained that the confrontation began when one side attempted to drive a vehicle through a narrow alley where the opposing party was also present, leading to a verbal argument that escalated into armed violence.
He added that police arrived at the scene promptly and took immediate action to prevent the situation from worsening.
According to the official, eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and further investigations were underway.
