KABUL (Pajhwok): The Economic Commission has approved allocation of 2,000 acres of land at the Abu Nasr Farahi port for unloading, loading vehicles and related administrative department.
The commission also endorsed a proposal to construct a cold storage facility and juice factory on 17.5 acres of land in southern Ghazni province.
A regular meeting of the Economic Commission, led by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Maulvi Abdul Ghani Baradar, was held today (Wednesday), his office said.
A statement from the deputy premier office said that during the meeting, the issue of infrastructure development at the Abu Nasr Farahi port in Farah province, including land allocation for vehicle unloading and loading, and overall expansion of the port, was presented.
It said: “After discussions, it was decided that 2,000 acres of land would be allocated at Abu Nasr Farahi port for unloading, loading and related administrative facilities.”
The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has been tasked with preparing the design and master plan for the port’s expansion and submitting it to relevant authorities within the specified timeline for implementation.
The Ministry of Finance was also instructed to include the port expansion project in the next fiscal year’s budget and drawing funds from the respective ministries’ allocations.
The deputy PM office noted that the commission reviewed and approved a private sector proposal to construct a cold storage facility and juice processing factory on land owned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in Ghazni city.
According to the plan, a cold storage facility with a 5,000-tonne capacity and a juice processing factory will be built on 17.5 acres of land, with an investment of 140 million afghanis.
All decisions have been forwarded to the Leadership Office for final approval.
