HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Nearly two billion afghanis were spent on addressing the situation of returnees in the country during the past one month, an official said on Thursday.
Maulvi Ahmadullah Wasiq, a member of High Commission for Addressing the Problems of Refugees, told media that 2,000 afghanis were distributed daily to each person from a returnee family, bringing the total spending to 30 million afghanis a day.
He said in addition, all services to returnees, including food, transportation, health care, and registration, are provided free of charge, and this process continues.
According to Wasiq, the Islamic Emirate distributes aid directly, but called on charitable institutions, businessmen, and benefactors to cooperate with the refugees in the process of building and renovating houses.
Meanwhile, officials at Islam Qala border commission explained nearly one million Afghan migrants have entered the country through the port so far.
All necessary facilities have been provided for the transfer of migrants, and no tariffs or taxes have been imposed on their personal belongings, Wasiq added.
On the other hand, Maulvi Abdul Salam Hijrat, head of Refugee Services Committee in Herat province, said that upon the arrival of each refugee in the country, he and his family’s basic needs, including temporary shelter, food, health services, and clothing, are provided as soon as possible.
The process of returning refugees from Iran is still ongoing, and according to officials, assistance and support programs for returnees will continue until their situation is fully stabilized.
