UNDP, S. Korea launch $10m REVIVE project to help Afghans

KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with $10 million in funding from the Republic of Korea, has officially launched the Relief, Employment and Vital Infrastructure for the Vulnerable in Emergencies (REVIVE) project in Afghanistan.

Running from July 2025 to July 2026, the initiative will reach over 350,000 people across six provinces — Badakhshan, Zabul, Daikundi, Faryab, Khost, and Nangarhar — providing urgent support to communities affected by the country’s ongoing humanitarian and economic crisis, UNDP said in a statement.

The REVIVE project focuses on creating emergency employment, rehabilitating essential infrastructure, and improving community-level food security.

It places strong emphasis on climate resilience, women’s empowerment, and support for returnees and displaced people, aiming to bridge the gap between immediate relief and long-term recovery.

“REVIVE is more than a humanitarian response, it is a bridge between crisis and recovery,” said Stephen Rodriques, UNDP Resident Representative in Afghanistan. “By investing in infrastructure, employment, and local resilience, we aim to help communities regain control over their futures and create opportunities that are inclusive, sustainable, and lasting.”

The project also reflects the broader commitment of international partners to support the Afghan people. “The Republic of Korea, as a responsible and long-standing donor to Afghanistan, remains committed to supporting the people of Afghanistan during these challenging times. The betterment of the Afghan people — particularly women, children, and refugees — continues to be a foremost priority in our humanitarian engagement,” said Sung-hwan Moon, Chargé d’affaires of the Republic of Korea to Afghanistan.

“In line with this commitment, and as part of the Republic of Korea’s flagship initiative with UNDP, we are pleased to support the REVIVE project in Afghanistan. We believe that projects like REVIVE are essential in helping communities rebuild livelihoods, restore hope, and move toward a more resilient and self-reliant future. Korea reaffirms our commitment to supporting these efforts, with a continued focus on addressing the most pressing humanitarian needs.”

REVIVE demonstrates the ongoing partnership between UNDP and the Government of the Republic of Korea to help the people of Afghanistan recover and rebuild their lives with dignity and resilience.
