KABUL (Pajhwok): Around 200 flour factories are currently operating in Afghanistan, producing approximately 60 percent of the country’s domestic flour requirements, according to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.
In a statement, the office said Afghanistan require around six million tonnes of flour annually, of which 3.5 million tonnes are currently produced domestically.
It added that one million tonnes of flour are produced in these 200 factories, while the remainder is produced in rural mills.
The statement noted that around $150 million has been invested in these factories, which currently provide permanent employment for 2,500 Afghans.
