After Pajhwok report, Daikundi to get 19 new telecom sites

NEILI (Pajhwok): Following the publication of a report by Pajhwok Afghan News on internet and telecom issues in central Daikundi, the Director General of the Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority (ATRA) visited the province and announced the activation of 19 new telecom sites.

On 17 August, Pajhwok reported that some residents of Daikundi said the lack or poor quality of telecom and internet services in several districts and remote areas has caused serious difficulties in their daily lives.

They noted that even in this digital era, many people are still forced to walk kilometers into the mountains and hills just to make a simple phone call. Residents expressed concern that this persistent problem has left people—particularly young people—without access to modern technology.

Following the report, Mawlawi Syed Barat Shah Agha Nadim, Director General of ATRA, traveled to Daikundi on Thursday to assess the state of telecom networks. In separate meetings with the governor and representatives of telecom companies, he discussed the challenges and explored ways to improve services.

He stated that ATRA is determined to resolve the province’s telecom issues, adding that 19 new telecom sites will be activated across Daikundi.

However, Ghazanfar Kazemi, spokesperson for the governor, said that in a separate meeting with Mawlawi Najibullah Rafi, the governor of Daikundi, the Director General of ATRA mentioned that 11 sites will be built this year using ATRA’s budget, while additional sites will be constructed by telecom companies.

Kazemi added that the governor highlighted the difficulties posed by the province’s harsh geography, noting that many areas still lack even basic telecom access.

The governor of Daikundi expressed gratitude for the activation of the 19 new sites and said he hopes ATRA will give greater attention to the remote and underdeveloped province than anywhere else.
