CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): Construction work has been initiated on two water supply projects estimated to cost 11 million afghanis in Siahgard district of central Parwan province, an official said on Thursday.
Director of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Maulvi Mirza Jan Sediq said the networks were being built in Makarkhil and Pushta Qalatak villages of the district.
He added that the two drinking water networks, with a total length of 5,267 metres, will include 500 water taps, two wells at depths of 70 metres and a 60 cubic metre water storage capacity equipped with an 11-kilowatt solar pump system.
He stated that the networks were being constructed with over 11 million afghanis provided by the World Bank and were being implemented by the Aga Khan Foundation, and supervised by his department.
He said the networks would provide clean drinking water to more than 500 families.
Haji Syed Aqa, a local elder, expressed his satisfaction with the start of the projects, saying: “Water scarcity and drought are increasing day by day. These two clean drinking water networks, built by the government at the request of the people, will play a very important role in supplying safe drinking water to the community.”
According to the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, since the beginning of last year, approximately 200 public welfare projects have been implemented across the province by the Rural Rehabilitation and Development department, with another 60 projects currently under completion.
