Iran extends condolences, aid to Afghan quake victims

KABUL (Pajhwok): Iran on Monday expressed sympathy for Afghanistan’s earthquake victims, particularly the families of the deceased, and announced its readiness to assist the Afghan government with relief and rescue efforts in the eastern provinces.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior reported that the quake in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces claimed 622 lives and injured 1,555 people, while destroying a large number of homes.

The Ministry of Public Health also reported 80 injuries in Laghman province.

Iran’s embassy in Kabul wrote on its X page: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to assist Afghanistan following the magnitude 6.0 earthquake in the eastern part of the country.

Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, expressed our country’s sympathy with the people of Afghanistan, particularly the families of those who lost their lives in Kunar, Nuristan, Nangarhar and Laghman provinces and prayed for the health and recovery of the injured and affected.”

Referring to the severity of the earthquake, the ministry reiterated Iran’s readiness to provide any assistance to the Afghan government in relief and rescue operations.

The United Nations, European Union, Japan, and Turkey have also expressed deep sorrow over the deadly earthquake and have dispatched teams to provide urgent aid to affected communities.
