KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction work has begun on the road connecting Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh, to Dara-i-Suf district in Samangan, at a cost of 159 million afghanis, the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) said on Tuesday.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the MoPW, wrote on his X page that the Mazar-i-Sharif–Dara-i-Suf road is 56.3 kilometres long and its rehabilitation will cost 159 million afghanis.

He added that the project also includes the repair and reconstruction of several culverts and retaining walls and is expected to be completed within one year.

According to Haqshenas, once the project is completed, transportation problems for local people will be eased compared to the past and the fast and safe transfer of agricultural and commercial goods will also be significantly improved.
