German delegation to hold talks with IEA on Afghan migrants

KABUL (Pajhwok): Germany’s interior minister has said a delegation from his country will travel to Kabul to hold direct talks with the Islamic Emirate regarding the “orderly and increased” deportation of Afghan migrants convicted of criminal offenses.

According to Deutsche Welle, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the dispatch of German representatives to Kabul is being organized so that negotiations can continue in person there.

He was quoted as saying: “Since the process of returning Afghans who have been legally ordered deported and committed criminal offenses must be carried out in a more organized and expanded way, representatives from Germany will travel to Kabul to hold direct talks with the Taliban.”

The report said Qatari representatives are mediating in the process, with the aim of simplifying deportations from Germany to Afghanistan.

This comes after Germany deported 81 Afghan refugees to Kabul in July this year.

On August 7, the German interior minister also said his government was working to return more individuals without residence permits to Afghanistan and Syria.

He added: “We will continue border controls, and not only controls but also rejections at the borders will remain in place after September.”
