5 killed, as many injured in Chaman explosion

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Five people have been killed and five others injured in an explosion at a vehicle terminal near the Durand Line in Chaman, Balochistan, local sources confirmed.

Initial reports had suggested the explosion targeted Afghan refugees. However, residents of Chaman and Spin Boldak clarified that the blast did not harm any refugees but instead affected local workers — specifically luggage carriers or porters.

The explosion occurred around 8:00pm on Thursday night at the “Haji Bawal” vehicle terminal, a busy location near the Chaman–Spin Boldak border crossing.

Khair Mohammad, a resident of Chaman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the victims were local laborers involved in transporting goods across the Durand Line.

Abdul Ghaffar, a resident of Spin Boldak in Kandahar, who lives near the Durand Line, also confirmed that the casualties were among the porters.

“All the victims were luggage carriers. I personally knew two or three of them. I visited them today to inquire about their condition. No refugees were harmed,” he said.

According to Ghaffar, five individuals were killed and five others wounded in the explosion. Most of the victims were residents of Chaman, he added, though he did not provide further details.

The cause of the blast remains unknown, and Pakistani authorities have not yet commented on the incident.

The Haji Bawal terminal is frequently used by “Laghariyan” — local porters and organizers who handle the preparation and transport of goods across the Durand Line.
