KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 39 people have been killed and more than 50 others injured in a stampede during an election rally in Tamil Nadu state of India, reports said on Sunday.

Reuters reported the rally was organized in Karur city by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, led by Tamil actor Vijay.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin explained: “So far, 39 people have died, including 13 men, 17 women, four boys, and five girls while 51 people, including 26 men and 25 women, are receiving intensive treatment”.

Vijay, one of Tamil cinema’s most popular actors in the past three decades, has drawn huge crowds since founding his political party in 2024.
