Israeli strikes kill 70 Palestinians despite Trump truce call

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 70 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, despite calls from US President Donald Trump for Israel to halt its bombardment, according to media reports.

At least 45 of the victims were killed in bombardments and airstrikes on Saturday in famine-stricken Gaza City, where Israeli forces have been intensifying their offensive in recent weeks.

The escalation has forced nearly one million residents to flee toward the overcrowded southern region, Al Jazeera reported.

Israeli forces also targeted a displacement camp in al-Mawasi, southern Gaza, killing two children and wounding at least eight others. Al-Mawasi has been designated by Israel as a “safe humanitarian zone,” where Palestinian families have been ordered to seek refuge. However, the area has been repeatedly struck in recent weeks and months.

Air raids have also been reported in other areas, including the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, according to Al Jazeera’s correspondent Hind Khoudary, reporting from az-Zawayda.

“Hospitals are unable to treat all of these Palestinians,” Khoudary said, referring to the few remaining medical facilities still operating in northern Gaza amid severe fuel shortages.

On Saturday, President Trump urged Hamas to act swiftly to release hostages and finalize negotiations over his proposed plan to end the war, warning that delays would not be tolerated.

“I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST. Everyone will be treated fairly!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

In a later post the same day, Trump said Israel had agreed to an initial “withdrawal line,” which was also communicated to Hamas.

“When Hamas confirms, the ceasefire will be IMMEDIATELY effective, the Hostages and Prisoner Exchange will begin, and we will create the conditions for the next phase of withdrawal,” he wrote.
