Farahi road to be completed this year, says Iranian diplomat

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Iran’s Consul General in western Herat province, Alireza Marhamati, has announced that construction work on the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi port road in Farah province is expected to be fully completed by the end of this year.

During his visit to Farah province, Marhamati told reporters that the purpose of his trip was to meet the provincial governor, strengthen bilateral cooperation, review progress on the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi road project and invite local officials to an ongoing exhibition in Birjand city, Iran.

He stated that work on the 120-kilometre road, which connects the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi port to the centre of Farah province, is being closely monitored by Iranian officials.

According to him, the project will be fully constructed and asphalted by the end of the year.

Marhamati acknowledged that issues related to fuel, bitumen and funding had caused delays but assured that work is ongoing, with 33 kilometres already asphalted.

Farah Governor Mullah Mohammad Hafiz Mujahid described the Iranian diplomat’s visit and inspection of the port as valuable for advancing road construction and agricultural cooperation.

He added that the Consul General assured local officials of continued support for fuel, bitumen and the project budget.

Mujahid noted that his own visit to the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi port aimed to assess the road’s quality and capacity, parking facilities and the needs of national traders and drivers.

Relevant departments have been directed to address the existing challenges.

A major exhibition is expected to be held soon in Birjand, Iran, with the participation of Afghan officials.

Both sides are expected to discuss cooperation in healthcare, agriculture, and the enrolment of Afghan students in Iranian universities.
