CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): At least nine people were injured after a hand grenade accidentally exploded during night prayer in the Shinwari district of central Parwan province, police said on Monday.

Fazl-ur-Rahim Muskinyar, Parwan police spokesman, said the incident occurred in the Badam Afghan area of the district on Sunday night at around 7:30 PM.

“According to initial investigations and eyewitness accounts, the explosion happened due to the carelessness of a person entering the mosque. The hand grenade fell to the ground, causing minor injuries to nine local residents,” he said.

Muskinyar added that security forces promptly arrived at the scene and took the injured to the hospital. Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
