Cabinet urges faster land distribution to returnees

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) cabinet has approved the delegation’s report on determining the railway gauge for the line from Hairatan to Spin Boldak and emphasised the need to expedite the process of land distribution for returning refugees.

Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for IEA, wrote on X that the cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, was held on Monday.

He said the meeting discussed significant economic, social and cultural issues facing the country and made several important decisions.

Fitrat added: “The cabinet approved the delegation’s report on determining the gauge for the New Afghan Trans Railway from Hairatan to Spin Boldak.

It was decided that the gauge should be 1,520 millimetres, while also taking into consideration the 1,435-millimetre gauge.”

It also decided that the Deputy Prime Minister for Administrative Affairs, Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, as head of the High Commission for Refugees, should convene a meeting of the refugee committee to review its activities and accelerate the land distribution process, ensuring that land is allocated to eligible returnees as soon as possible.

The meeting also resolved to identify and address the obstacles that have so far delayed the land distribution process for refugees in certain areas, Fitrat concluded.
