KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MoLSA) handled 1,921 cases of missing repatriated children across the country during the second quarter of the current year.
In a post on its Facebook page, the ministry said its child projection department, through the efforts of its provincial departments, had addressed 1,921 cases of missing and repatriated children during the past three months.
It said most of these children were from Farah, Bamyan, Jawzjan, Kunduz, Logar, Kapisa, Baghlan, Parwan, Ghor, Daikundi, Laghman, Badghis, Ghazni, Nuristan, Sar-i-Pul, Herat, Paktika, Nangarhar, Balkh and Faryab provinces.
The ministry added that the children were reunited with their families through the coordinated efforts of the ministry and its provincial offices.
MoLSA said that, in cooperation with its provincial departments and partner organisations, it provided temporary shelter, food, drinking water and transport for the children until they were reunited with their families.
It added that the Child Protection Committee also conducted public awareness programmes on children’s rights for the children themselves and their families.
The ministry noted that it had signed seven memoranda of understanding with charitable institutions and foundations to support orphans and children without guardians.
