35 killed in fuel tanker explosion in Nigeria

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 35 people have died after a fuel tanker overturned and exploded in Nigeria, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday in Niger State when the vehicle skidded off the road, spilling petrol that ignited shortly after the crash, according to Aishatu Saádu, FRSC sector commander in the state. Victims were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Such accidents are common in Africa’s most populous country, where petroleum products are largely transported by road due to limited pipeline infrastructure.

Poorly maintained roads, often riddled with potholes, contribute to frequent crashes that claim dozens of lives each year.
