In Ghazni, 16 couples tie the knot at mass wedding ceremony

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Sixteen couples tied the knot at a mass wedding ceremony in southern Ghazni province to avoid unnecessary and excessive expenses.

Qari Mohammad Ghaus Kawish, an organizer of the joint wedding ceremony and head of the Saadat charity foundation, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the ceremony was held to prevent excessive expenses on weddings.

He added these 32 grooms and brides were unable to hold their wedding ceremonies themselves due to their poor economic situation.

He said they had organized similar mass wedding ceremonies in the past and it was the sixth time in the past four years they held a mass wedding ceremony.

According to him, the cost on today’s mass wedding ceremony was about 400,000 afghanis donated by the Saadat Foundation and a number of businessmen.

He said that in order to prevent high costs and high bride prices and to eliminate moral corruption in the society, he will continue to hold mass weddings.

Meanwhile, a number of grooms participating in the ceremony said that they could not afford the wedding expenses on their own and that was why they participated in the ceremony.

One of then, Ahmad Shoaib, said that he was happy to participate inthe ceremony as he could not afford the expenses of a separate wedding.

Another wedding participant, Matin, told Pajhwok Afghan News that such mass weddings saved families from a lot of expenses.

According to him, on the one hand, the economic situation in the whole country is bad, and on the other, many young people are unemployed and cannot hold wedding ceremony on their own.

He thanked the organization for organizing the mass wedding ceremony that saved them from a lot of expenses.

Mass wedding ceremonies are held in Ghazni every year with the help of various organizations, national businessmen and religious scholars. Twenty days ago, the same organization organized a joint wedding ceremony involving 36 couples.
