KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) says the land of “Syed Ishaq Gailani Township”, measuring nearly 3,320 acres, has been declared state property in Surkhrod district of eastern Nangarhar province following the examination of relevant documents and evidence.
In a statement, the ministry said the Special Court for Addressing Cases of Usurped State Lands in the Central Zone made the decision after reviewing documents and records related to the township, ruling that the entire land belongs to the state.
It added that the Commission for the Prevention of Land Grabbing had earlier investigated the case of the Syed Ishaq Gailani Township in Surkhrod district and, in accordance with Article 17 of the Law on the Prevention and Restitution of Grabbed Lands, had officially referred the case to the special court.
According to the ministry, the special court reached its decision after carefully examining ownership documents, property records, and information obtained from relevant authorities. Since no evidence was found proving that the land had been legally purchased from the government, it was declared state-owned.
The court also ruled that those occupying the land — most of whom had bought plots from private individuals — may seek compensation from the sellers they had paid money.
The MoJ said the process of reviewing, verifying and reclaiming state-owned lands continued across the country.
The Commission for the Prevention of Land Grabbing, provincial technical teams and relevant special courts continue to decide on disputed and claimed lands after thoroughly examining documents, evidence and information from state institutions.
