KABUL (Pajhwok): British Special Representative for Afghanistan has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Afghans, saying that four million pounds have been allocated to support the recent earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan.
Richard Lindsay made these remarks at a meeting with Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Maulvi Abdul Kabir, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) wrote on its X handle.
During the meeting, Lindsay praised the recent ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan and expressed hope that Kabul and Islamabad would work together towards a permanent truce.
He said the UK had allocated four million pounds to assist earthquake-affected families in eastern Afghanistan, with the aid being delivered through United Nations agencies.
The British envoy noted that the arrival of refugees and natural disasters had increased the need for humanitarian support in Afghanistan and reaffirmed that London would continue its assistance to Afghans.
For his part, Maulvi Abdul Kabir thanked the UK for its humanitarian support and said the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) was utilising all available resources to assist Afghan refugees and those in need.
He added that, in addition to providing temporary support, the Afghan government had planned the construction of several housing projects to provide permanent shelter for returnees, with work already underway on some of them.
He also stressed that housing projects were vital for finding a lasting solution to displacement and improving the lives of returnees, calling on the UK and other donor countries to continue their support in this regard.
