11 killed, 20 injured in train collision in India

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 11 people have been killed and 20 others injured after two trains collided in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, a media report said on Wednesday.

The local passenger train hit the cargo train from behind near the city of Bilaspur, about 115 kilometers (70 miles) northeast of Chhattisgarh’s state capital of Raipur on Tuesday evening, the Associated Press reported.

The news agency quoted local officials as saying “Rescue operations were completed early Wednesday morning and train services on the route have resumed”.

Railway officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The incident comes just days after another deadly crash on November 2 in southern India, when a truck collided with a passenger bus, killing at least 20 people and injuring around 24 others.
