61 women’s rights cases addressed nationwide this week: MoPVPV

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MoPVPV) says it has addressed 61 cases of women’s Sharia rights across the country in the past week, while 139 people suffering from mental disorders in Nuristan and Laghman provinces were referred for treatment.

In a statement, the MoPVPV said that it carried out various activities nationwide to uphold Islamic values, promote social justice and moral virtues, protect women’s Sharia rights, and identify mentally ill people.

In line with the directive of the Islamic Emirate’s leader, ministry officials identified 139 individuals with mental disorders in Laghman and Nuristan and referred them to Red Crescent Society branches for treatment, the report added.

The statement explained during the same period, the ministry handled 61 cases related to women’s rights, including 23 cases of oppression, 16 inheritance-related deprivations, eight forced marriages, six non-payment of dowries, five cases of unpaid maintenance, and three divorce-related cases.

It said that in a bid to promote social cohesion and resolve disputes, the ministry’s representatives mediated and settled six feuds and 20 family or tribal disputes in various provinces.

Meanwhile, the ministry noted that as part of its ongoing campaign against superstitious activities, its personnel detained nine professional magicians in several provinces to preserve Islamic values and social order.
