2.5m afs check dam built, inaugurated in Ghor

FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): The Energy and Water Department says a check dam with a storage capacity of more than 2,000 cubic meters of water has been completed and put into operation in western Ghor province.

Ramazan Faiz, the department’s spokesman, said the dam was built in Anaa village of Taywara district at a cost of 2.5 million afghanis.

“After the project’s completion, our technical team, along with several officials and local residents, visited the site for the inauguration,” Faiz said. “The check dam, with a storage capacity of 2,251 cubic meters, has already benefited many families.”

Local residents described the project as an important step toward managing surface and groundwater resources and called for the protection of such infrastructure.

Noor Ahmad, one of the villagers, said: “We appreciate projects like this that help collect rainwater and other water sources amid the ongoing drought. We urge the government to build more reservoirs, and we will do our part to protect and maintain them.”

According to residents, the dam was constructed at a time when climate change over the past two years has damaged farmlands and made access to safe drinking water increasingly difficult in the area.
