3 children killed in mine explosion in Badghis

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Three children have been killed when a landmine leftover from past wars exploded in the Bala Murghab district of western Badghis province.

Sediqullah Sediqi, spokesman for the Badghis Police, said the blast occurred on Thursday evening in Qarutawi village.

He added, “A mine left from past conflicts in Qarutawi village detonated yesterday evening while three children were on their way home, killing all three.”

Security officials in Badghis emphasized that efforts are underway to prevent similar incidents.

Two days earlier, a cluster mine explosion in Panirk village, also in Bala Murghab, had killed two children.

Mines and unexploded ordnance from past conflicts continue to pose a serious threat to residents across Badghis, particularly children.
