Afghan wushu athlete wins bronze in Islamic Solidarity Games

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan wushu athlete Mohammad Jafar Sultani has secured a bronze medal after defeating his Saudi opponent in the Islamic Unity Games, and is set to compete today for the silver.

According to the Afghanistan Wushu Federation, Sultani claimed the bronze medal last night after overcoming his Saudi competitor.

He is scheduled to face Iranian athlete Erfan Mehremi this afternoon in the −75kg category for a place in the final.

Sultani had earlier defeated his Yemeni opponent in the opening match.

Meanwhile, two other Afghan wushu athletes were eliminated from the competition yesterday — Shamsuddin Haji Zada lost to his Azerbaijani rival, and Asadullah Sadat was defeated by an athlete from Kyrgyzstan.

Currently, the sixth edition of the Islamic Unity Games is underway in Saudi Arabia, with Afghan athletes participating in various sports disciplines.
