10 pedestrian overpasses being built in Kabul: Municipality

KABUL (Pajhwok): Construction has begun on a project to build 10 pedestrian overpasses in densely populated areas of Kabul, costing over 47 million afghanis, the Kabul Municipality announced on Sunday.

The initiative aims to ensure safe movement for pedestrians in high-traffic areas.

On its X, Kabul Municipality wrote: “Kabul Municipality has launched the construction and installation program of 10 pedestrian overpasses to ensure safe crossings in crowded parts of the city.”

Practical work on the project has started in front of the Education and Training University, where the first bridge—54 meters long, 2 meters wide, and 6 meters high—is being installed. The bridge features four metal pillars and standard staircases.

According to the statement, the overpasses will be installed in phases across other high-traffic areas to better organize pedestrian movement and significantly reduce traffic accidents.

Kabul Municipality said the project, costing over 47 million afghanis, is expected to improve urban order and enhance safety on crowded routes.
