KABUL (Pajhwok): Reconstruction work has been initiated on the Badakhshan-Takhar highway at a cost of over 79 million afghanis, an official announced on Monday.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), wrote on his X handle the reconstruction work was kicked off in the presence of deputy governor of Badakhshan Mawlawi Mohammad Amin Tayeb, public works director Mawlawi Abdul Ghafoor Atit, as well as a number of local officials and tribal elders.
He said the project included construction of a 60-metre bridge, culverts and retaining walls in addition to reconstruction of the road.
The contract, valued at over 79 million afghanis, has been signed between MoPW and a road reconstruction firm.
Haqshenas added that once completed, the project would help resolve transportation challenges and provide greater facilities for the movement of commercial goods and agricultural products.
