KABUL (Pajhwok): Over 10 tonnes of expired and low-quality food items, medicines and health products were destroyed in northeastern Badakhshan province, as they posed a risk to public health, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said Thursday.
According to the ministry, citing the Public Health Department, a total of 135 types of food items and 170 types of expired, low-quality and unauthorized medicines and health products—amounting to more than 10 tonnes—were incinerated in the province.
The items were destroyed in the presence of local government representatives. Officials said the operation aimed to prevent the circulation of harmful products in Badakhshan markets.
Health officials stressed that market monitoring and efforts to stop the sale of substandard goods will continue to ensure citizens’ safety and protect public health.
