MoVVC committed to eliminating harmful traditions: Hanafi

KABUL (Pajhwok):  Minister of Vice and Virtue Mohammad Khalid Hanafi says they are committed to eradicating harmful traditions in the country and would not allow anyone to engage in practices deemed inappropriate or contrary to Sharia.

Hanafi travelled to northern Balkh province with the aim of improving the implementation of the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice law, preventing harmful customs, hearing public concerns, promoting virtuous practices, curbing wrongdoing, enhancing coordination and raising public awareness, the Ministry of Vice, Virtue and Complaints (MoVVC) said.

A statement from the ministry said during the visit, Hanafi met with provincial civil and military officials, religious scholars, tribal elders, community representatives, as well as a large number of youths and students.

Addressing the gathering, Hanafi spoke about the importance of promoting virtue and preventing vice, saying: “We do not compromise on Islamic Sharia and we carry out all our affairs in full compliance with our religious law.”

The minister noted that in past years many members of society, particularly women, had been deprived of their rights due to harmful customs.

He stressed that his ministry was committed to eliminating harmful traditions in society and that no one would be permitted to engage in inappropriate or un-Islamic practices.

He also instructed inspectors to adopt a gentle and appropriate approach in their advisory and reform efforts, adding: “If officials themselves commit wrongdoing, leniency is not acceptable — their errors must be addressed.”

He also called on local officials, tribal elders and religious scholars to assist the ministry in enforcing and promoting the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice law.
