KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan officials say that investigations are underway into the killing of five Chinese nationals near the Tajikistan border last week, which they say was carried out by enemies aiming to sow distrust between the two countries.
The attacks, which also left five others wounded, occurred in two separate incidents along the Afghan–Tajik border.
Following the violence, Beijing urged its citizens working in mining and commercial activities near the frontier to leave the area immediately.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), wrote on his X account that Deputy Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammad Naeem met with Chinese Ambassador to Kabul Zhao Xing.
The meeting focused on the recent attacks and ways to strengthen Afghanistan–China relations.
Naeem expressed sorrow over the killings and confirmed that investigations are ongoing, describing the attacks as deliberate acts by enemies seeking to damage bilateral trust.
Xing praised the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) for its prompt and serious response, noting that the perpetrators intended to undermine relations between Kabul and Beijing.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and further strengthening of ties.
