ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A 50-year-old man, held captive by his relatives for 12 years to a dark room in northwestern Nimroz province, has been freed by security forces.

Police spokesman Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat told Pajhwok Afghan News that personnel from the 3rd police district rescued the man in the Syedabad area of Zaranj, where he had been held captive in a dark room by his relatives for the past 12 years.

According to him, the man—identified as Ghulam Mohammad, aged 50—had been kept in harsh and inhumane conditions by his family for unknown reasons.
