New archaeological site discovered in Laghman

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Information and Culture says a new archaeological site has been discovered in Alingar district of Laghman province, where a number of ancient artifacts have also been found.

In a statement, the MoIC said the site, discovered in the village of “Si-Tan” in the Saw Valley of Alingar district, dated back to the pre-Christian era. The site includes a stone staircase, 12 hand-carved chambers and several other architectural remains.

It said that a delegation led by the head of Information and Culture of Laghman visited the area and, with the cooperation of local residents, identified the archaeological site and recovered a number of historical relics.

Earlier, the Department had discovered similar archaeological sites in different parts of the province and recovered many historical relics.
