KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 3,000 Afghan refugees have been expelled from neighbouring Iran and Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan in a single day, an official said on Monday.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), shared a report from the High Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues on his X account.
The report showed that 577 families, comprising 3,005 individuals, returned to the country on Monday.
According to Fitrat, the returnees entered Afghanistan through several border crossings, including Islam Qala in Herat, Pul-i-Abresham in Nimroz, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Bahramcha in Helmand and the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar.
He said that 967 families, totaling 5,423 individuals, were transported to their respective areas of residence, while 792 families received humanitarian assistance upon arrival.
In addition, telecommunication companies distributed 479 SIM cards to the returning refugees, he added.
Fitrat also noted that on Sunday, 5,580 Afghan migrants were forcibly repatriated from Iran and Pakistan.
