Kargar appointed as member of FIFA development committee

KABUL (Pajhwok): Mohammad Yousuf Kargar, President of the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF), has been appointed as a member of the Technical and Development Committee of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

Kargar officially received his membership of FIFA’s Development and Technical Committee during a recent plenary session held in Doha, Qatar, the AFF said in a statement.

The meeting was attended by Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, making Kargar the first Afghan representative to serve on a major FIFA committee. The session focused on key global football development and technical programmes planned for 2026.

During a meeting with Kargar, FIFA President Gianni Infantino commended the recent achievements of Afghan football, the statement added.

Kargar’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the development of football in Afghanistan, providing the country with a platform to contribute to global technical strategies.

FIFA’s Technical and Development Committee is a key decision-making body responsible for policy, education, and football development matters for member associations. Membership enables representatives to play a direct role in shaping technical and operational football strategies at the global level.

Having served in various managerial and technical roles within Afghan football for many years, Kargar becomes the first official Afghan representative within FIFA’s technical structures.
