GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces have detained 11 individuals for illegally hunting birds in the Nawa district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Saturday.
Police spokesman Abu Khalid Sarhadi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the suspects were arrested late Friday night while hunting birds in the Ab-i-Istada area of the district.
He said the detainees are currently being held under the supervision of Nawa district security forces and will soon be transferred to judicial authorities for further investigation.
Ab-i-Istada, located in Nawa district, is a major habitat for migratory birds and attracts large numbers of them each year.
Hunting birds and other wildlife has been banned nationwide under a decree issued by the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA). Authorities have warned that violators will face legal action.
Earlier, several individuals were also arrested on similar charges in the Qarabagh, Waghez and Jaghatu districts, as well as other parts of the province.
