KABUL (Pajhwok): At least nine people have been killed and 10 others injured in a mass shooting in Johannesburg, South Africa, Al Jazeera reported.
The attack occurred in Bekkersdal, a township about 40 kilometres (25 miles) south-west of Johannesburg, near several of South Africa’s major gold mines.
The shooting took place at a tavern shortly before 1am local time (23:00 GMT on Saturday). A manhunt is currently under way for those responsible.
Police said they were searching for at least 10 suspects in connection with the attack. Gauteng Acting Police Commissioner Fred Kekana told SABC News that, according to witness accounts, nine of the suspects were armed with pistols, while one carried an AK-47 rifle.
South African police added that some victims were shot at random in the streets as the attackers fled the scene.
“Some victims were randomly shot in the streets by unknown gunmen,” a police statement said.
