Iranian diplomat: Visa process for Afghans to be simplified

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Deputy Ambassador of Iran to Afghanistan has said his country is committed to developing and strengthening relations with Afghanistan, with efforts to simplify visa issuance process for Afghan citizens high on its agenda.

Seyed Hossein Mortazavi, the Deputy Ambassador, met with the Governor of Herat province, Sheikh Mawlawi Islam Jar, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues concerning migrants, the expansion of bilateral relations, and trade cooperation.

The statement noted that Mortazavi emphasized Iran’s commitment to consolidating ties with Afghanistan and pledged to work toward simplifying and streamlining the visa regime for Afghan citizens.

Sheikh Mawlawi Islam Jar highlighted the importance of timely Iranian efforts to address migrant-related issues and called for greater cooperation from relevant institutions to facilitate visas for Afghan nationals.

He added that the Islamic Emirate seeks strong and lasting relations with Iran and stressed that easing trade exchanges, transit operations, and matters affecting citizens of both countries is mutually beneficial and constructive.

Meanwhile, Alireza Marhamati, the Consul General of Iran in Herat, said that the case of migrants killed at the Iranian border has been referred to Iran’s judicial authorities, where all documents and circumstances related to the incident will be thoroughly investigated.
