KHOST CITY, PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Security forces have arrested five people on robbery and burglary charges in southeastern Khost province and northern Baghlan provinces.
In a statement, the Khost police headquarters said personnel of the 4th and 6th police districts of Khost city detained three individuals accused of looting shops at night and breaking into houses.
According to the statement, the detainees are accused of stealing around 10,000 US dollars and some Afghan currency from a house in the 6th police district, and of looting shops in the 4th district, taking solar panels, cash and other valuables.
It said that the arrested individuals have been referred to judicial and prosecutorial authorities.
Meanwhile, two people have also been arrested on theft charges in northern Baghlan province.
According to Baghlan police headquarters, two suspects were detained in the provincial capital, Pul-i-Khumri, while allegedly attempting to rob a person.
The suspects had long been under police surveillance for their alleged involvement in house burglaries in the area and for harassing residents, the statement added.
According to the police, the cases of the arrested individuals will be referred to judicial and prosecutorial bodies after initial investigations.
