KABUL (Pajhwok): A technical railway team from neighbouring Iran has urged cooperation from the provincial administration of western Herat province in implementing work plans and facilitating the use of Herat–Khaf railway line.
The Iranian delegation, led by Morteza Jafari, Deputy Director for Commercial Affairs of Iranian Railways, met with Herat Governor Sheikh Mawlawi Islam Jar, a statement from the provincial media office said.
It said Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment and the Department of Industry and Mines were also present at the meeting.
The statement added the delegation shared its work report on monitoring improvement operations of Herat–Khaf railway line with the governor and sought the cooperation of the provincial administration in implementing its work plans and facilitating the use of the railway line.
For his part, Sheikh Mawlawi Islam Jar assured the delegation of his administration’s cooperation in addressing existing challenges.
He stressed the need to increase the effective use of the railway route, boost the volume of cargo transportation and facilitate the transit process.
Both sides also emphasised the expansion of technical and operational cooperation, closer coordination among relevant institutions and maximum utilisation of the Herat–Khaf railway’s capacity as an important transit and trade route at the end of the meeting, the statement concluded.
