PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Around 1,300 returnees have received cash assistance in central Logar province, an official said on Saturday.
Mawlawi Mir Hashim Hizbullah, Provincial Director of the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS), told a ceremony that the aid was distributed in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital and three districts, with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
He added that each family received 17,000 afghanis and noted that efforts were ongoing to extend assistance to other returning and newly arrived families.
Meanwhile, ARCS General Director Shahabuddin Delawar said the society runs wide-ranging humanitarian programmes to support returnees, with the cash aid representing a practical example of these efforts.
He emphasised that returnees are in urgent need of support and called on international organisations, alongside the Afghan government, to provide comprehensive assistance.
Two months ago, the Afghan Red Crescent Society also distributed cash aid to 1,300 returnees in the province.
